MEMBER SPOTLIGHT SUMMER 2023

Carolyn C. Strout

Carolyn Strout was born in Washington, D.C. but grew up in Charlotte, NC. She joined the American Red Cross as a young adult, which took her to Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. There, she met John who was an enlisted man at the AFB. After his service they moved to Wallingford, CN where he was from. Later, they moved back to Charlotte, NC for a while. At this time the couple were raising two children while John was doing his residency as a doctor. The US Army solicited John for a position in San Francisco as a Head and Neck Surgeon, and Captain’s pay sounded fabulous! John was the first man that the US Army waited two years for him to finish his residency before working for them. John joined the US Army and then worked two years at the Presidio in San Francisco.

When the family moved across country, they camped out. They visited relatives in SoCal and drove up the California coast (all wearing shorts). When the Army didn’t have a place for them to stay the first night, they camped under the Golden Gate Bridge, and everyone was so cold!  After living at the Presidio for two years, they moved to Novato, and in 1989 Carolyn became a realtor for Frank Howard Allen.  John’s career took him to Green Valley, so the family moved there in 1990. Carolyn tried to work long distance for a while, but in 1990, it wasn’t easy to do. So Carolyn switched brokerages to Country Estates and has been with the company ever since.

Carolyn is an Active Agent and still happily married to John (now retired) after 55 years, has seven grandchildren who are their pride and joyWashington, D.C.

Carolyn joined WCR because it gives her the opportunity to get to know more agents on a personal basis and likes the networking opportunity it provides.
