On May the Fourth, Women’s Council of Realtors, Solano; Pacific Community Lender, Inc.; Realty One Fox Group; and the Fairfield Suisun Chamber of Commerce collaborated to host a Blood Drive. The theme was Star Wars and the conference room at 1111 Webster Street, in Fairfield was transformed. The smell of fresh popcorn made it feel like you were at a movie theatre. We ran Star Wars movies all day and gave out goody bags with movie theatre size candy.
We had thirty two spots to fill and through some diligent outreach, we filled them all. Chery Trott from Vitalant set up the links for people to sign up online. It was easy to go to the website: https://www.vitalant.org to sign up by just using a sponsor code. Our code was: wcor, for Women’s Council of Realtors. In addition, Cheryl Trott reached out to her list of dedicated donors to tell them about our event.
I announced to our Northern Solano Association of Realtors a few times and even got us on KUIC with the help of Cheryl Bovee. I was interviewed by John Young at 7am on May the 3rd to make a final push for donors. John continued to run the story all day, while I was busy being helped by Ulises Perez & Randol Salters, two geeks from Best Buy to set up the sound and projector. Those Geeks did it for FREE and it turned out fantastic. We had BOSE sound of light sabers filling the room and creating an atmosphere fit for the day.
Pacific Community Lender, Inc. who is owned by Clarke Doyle continued their support of locally owned small business. He purchased gift cards from Rustwater Kitchen and Taproom – 800 Texas St. Fairfield, The Mandarin Restaurant and Lounge – 219 Texas St. C, Fairfield and Favela’s Fusion – 1500 Oliver Road, Fairfield and gave a $25 gift card to each and every donor. We even gave gift cards to the five Vitalant Workers and the staff at the Chamber of Commerce. The idea is to support those businesses who were forced to shut down during COVID and help to bring them customers. Last month we were at Journey in Vacaville. We will continue to choose local eateries with community support, everyone has to eat.
Cara Fox and Debbie Lintao generously provided a Grand Prize of a $250. Lowe’s gift card. The lucky winner was … Drum Roll…Rick Bucher. He was excited and happy to get the call that he had won. His wife Lisa had her eye on a nice chandelier, and this was perfect timing. Lisa not only gave blood but did the Double Reds…. In record time. Rick and Lisa are regular donors and both retired Solano County employees.
At the end of the day, the Vitalant group had successfully placed in the freezer 16 whole blood donations. Each donation can save up to three lives. Our drive could potentially save over 50 lives. Be proud that our group spearheaded this event. We even got interviewed by a local TV Station, KTVU Channel 2. We had so much help and support, it is incredible to see what we can accomplish when we all pull together. The Force, is definitely with us in Solano County.

We had a donor drive all the way from Napa. We had a donor come on her lunch who works for the City of Fairfield. Each donor had a reason and a purpose for choosing to donate. We do not have to host a drive for you to donate. There is a donation center right here in Fairfield. It is at: Gateway Blvd. There is always a need. Please consider becoming a donor. You can be a hero.
